About the team

We are thrilled you have chosen Tunbridge Wells RFC as the launch pad for your child’s rugby journey. We are a local rugby club that prides itself on community, inclusiveness and fun for children of all ages and ability.

U6s is our non contact entry level group for boys and girls starting Reception or Year 1 in September 2025.

Everyone is welcome and everything we do is built around having fun in a friendly, enjoyable and safe environment (following RFU APES guidelines). Using the latest coaching approaches and methodology recommended by the RFU, our sessions focus on rugby-specific activities that aim to develop the foundational skills of ball handling, catching and passing and most importantly, having fun!

We are a team of volunteers and rely on the support of parents – if you’re interested in becoming a coach or helping with the admin side, please do get in touch as we are always in need of help.

Please register your child via Spond either the website here (www.twrfc.com/spond) or via their App, if you can please download the app as we provide all communications on training sessions.

Some FAQS:

When does the new season start?
September 2025

How often is training?
Every Sunday (exception of a few weeks off for Easter and Christmas holidays)

How about when whether is iffy?
“Through wind and rain, TWRFC always train” (unless weather is super iffy)

What time and where is training?
9-10am, St. Marks Recreation Ground, Tunbridge Wells TN2 5LS (we may occasionally use other all weather facilities during the winter)

Is there parking?
There are parking spaces available at the club, but these can fill very quickly. You can park on Forest Road (around the corner from the club), but we ask that you are sensitive and respectful to TWRFC’s neighbours if you do so. We ask that you leave the area immediately in-front of the clubhouse for coaches carrying kit.

What should my child wear?

  • Children should have appropriate clothing for rugby, layers as it can be very windy/muddy but also the children are running around.

  • Bring a drink and snacks (as we take breaks during sessions).

  • In cold and wet weather, please remember “layers for players”. Base layers are a great idea; so too are vests and t-shirts plus fleeces or hoodies. It is better to have too many layers on the day rather than not enough.

  • A waterproof top is great at keeping the wind and rain out, and tend to be better than big coats that restrict movement.

  • Hats and gloves are also really important.

  • In terms of footwear, trainers can be worn in warm, drier weather, but rugby boots are recommended as pitch conditions get wetter and softer.

  • Screw-in studs or trainers are not permitted at the Astro Turf/3G pitch and many parents opt for moulded studs for the whole season, which seem to work well. If you opt for screw-in studs, children will need to wear astros's when at the Astro Turf/3G.

  • You don’t need a gum shield – there is no contact at this age level
  • Official Kit:
There is a club shop online if you want to buy branded clothing for those colder and wetter days, or new kit for your children. Please go to: https://twrfc.com/shop/. Also during the season a second hand kit shop also runs outside the coffee bar.

    The Coaches:
Suzy Robinson is the current Head Coach of the U6s, supported by an amazing team of volunteers, she is an RFU Level 2 Coach and previous Captain of TWRFC Womens X1V and well as experience of coaching at TWRFC up to Under 11s. Please do get in touch on suzyrobinson70@gmail.com with an enquiries and she will be happy to help.

Finally, all the coaches at TWRFC are volunteers. If you are new to the club or the area and would like to get involved, please do let Suzy know, the U6 age group requires a small army of volunteers to run and everyone is very welcome, we do hold socials as well. Seeing parents/guardians getting stuck in and sharing the rugby experience is a huge boost for the children and the more the merrier. We are not seasoned professionals – many volunteers have never played rugby before – and all we ask you to bring is stacks of enthusiasm. The one requirement will be to run a DBS check, which takes 10 minutes of your time and the club covers the cost.

I am sure there will be lots of other questions new parents will have, so please do not hesitate to email on suzyrobinson70@gmail.com.
