7Wells closed their Kent Waterfall League programme with a win over BASS (Beckenham & Sidcup cluster) in dry, bright conditions at Sevenoaks.

The home side were sharp from the outset. Lottie S scored twice early, finishing well after direct forward carries and good support. Tilly then broke clean through the line and was stopped illegally, resulting in a penalty try. It didn't all go the home side's way and two well taken scores, one converted, tightened the score before, Zara, 7Wells captain on the day, added two more tries before halftime as 7Wells played with tempo and accuracy to open up a 27–12 lead.

With a squad of 21, 7Wells rotated six substitutes each quarter. While this meant some players adapting to unfamiliar roles, intensity stayed high. The forwards were particularly effective at the breakdown, competing hard and securing quick ball, and the scrum provided a consistent platform. At the start of the second-half, a well-executed line-out move released the ball into midfield for one of the day’s best-constructed tries from Rosie and a 32-12 lead.

However, despite operating with just one sub, BASS refused to fade. Three unanswered tries in the final quarter cut the score to 32–29 and put the match back in the balance. The response from 7Wells was calm and controlled. Two late tries, from Lydia and Lottie S (completing her hat-trick), restored separation, both converted confidently by Nella and Sienna.

BASS deserve credit for their resilience and effort. This was matched by strong sportsmanship throughout, illustrated when Nella briefly played for BASS to keep numbers even. A large, vocal and supportive crowd added to the occasion. Lottie S (forwards) and Lottie L (backs) were chosen by BASS as 7Wells players of the match, the latter standing out for her control at 10. Maude and Lyra from BASS were chosen as the two top performers for BASS.

The result leaves 7Wells fourth in their half of the draw and likely to face Medway away at Sheppey on 1 February in their Waterfall seeding match.
