7Wells had trip to Reigate on Sunday for a friendly training fixture at the Surrey club. Heavy overnight rain meant regular youth rugby training had been called off, so the girls had the luxury of dedicated changing rooms and a match on 1st XV pitch.
Old Reigatians were great hosts with entrance music and flares and a sizeable crowd to watch the fixture of four quarters.
The early exchanges were competitive. Following two early tries from ORs, 7Wells held out well and managed to get into ORs half, but were let down in being able to maintain possession. First quarter injuries to two girls also saw 7Wells reduced to 13 early on, and the team found it tough to get into their rhythm. An excellent breakout score with the best sequence of possession at the end of the first half, gave a score of 36-7 at the break.
However, despite a resilient third quarter, the ORs moved the ball wide, well, and scored more tries in the second half.
7Wells have taken it as a learning experience and have highlighted a few areas to focus on over the coming weeks. There was some outstanding tackling in defence and strong, straight ball running that will be built upon.
