The U14s collaboration with Sevenoaks - playing as 7Wells - got off to a wining start Sunday at Deal.
Playing East Kent Barbarians (EKB) - a collaboration between Dover, Thanet, Deal & Betteshanger, and Canterbury clubs - the girls snatched victory from defeat with a last minute winning try.
7Wells started well with two early scores, but then fell behind with the scores 15-10 at halftime. 7Wells managed to score two more after the break and, despite another EKB try, were leading 20-25 as the game entered the last five minutes. Consistent pressure from EKB saw them return a 7Wells clearance kick and get to within a few yards of 7Wells line. Unfortunately, a high tackle then stopped an EKB score, who were awarded a 7-point penalty try taking the scores to 27-25.
Having conceded possession from the restart, the last play of the game saw EKB again pressing towards 7Wells 22 metre line. Some excellent defence saw the ball ripped from an EKB attacker and a stunning solo effort from 70 metres, meant 7Wells secured the match winning try.
