Tunbridge Wells delivered a commanding performance to overturn an early deficit and secure a 29–7 victory over Farnham, in a match that showcased the strength and control of the Wells forward pack.
Farnham started brightly, striking first with a converted try after a slick attacking move to lead 7–0. Their cohesive early play tested the Wells defence and suggested a challenging afternoon ahead.
However, the tide quickly turned as the Wells pack began to dominate both scrum and lineout. A penalty on halfway was kicked deep into the Farnham 22, and from structured phase play, Isbel linked neatly with Groocock to send Ethan Pearson crashing over by the posts. Dan converted to level the scores at 7–7.
Sustained pressure soon produced another opportunity. A penalty to the corner allowed the forwards to set up a strong maul, before the ball was spun wide for Brady Robertson to finish superbly in the corner. Dan’s excellent touchline conversion gave Wells a 14–7 half-time lead.
After the break, Wells took complete control. Dominating territory and possession, they forced repeated infringements from Farnham near their line. Another driven lineout rumbled over for 19–7, and with the scrum in full command, a penalty in front of the posts stretched the lead to 22–7.
In the closing stages, Dave Thornton sparked another attack with a key turnover on halfway. Wells kicked to the corner, and after a series of scrums and a quick tap from Whale, Thornton powered over to seal the bonus point. Dan’s final conversion capped a confident and clinical 29–7 win.
Tunbridge Wells keep their place as second in the league, continuing an impressive winning streak. The squad now enjoys a well-earned rest week before travelling away to face Camberley.
