Wells Dominate Wimbledon in Stunning Home Opener!

Wells Dominate Wimbledon in Stunning Home Opener!

Perihan Ibrahim18 Sep - 08:25

Tunbridge Wells 38 – 0 Wimbledon

What a way to kick off the home campaign! Under skies that threatened rain but eventually gave way to sunshine and a brisk wind, the 1XV delivered a dominant performance at St Marks on Saturday.

Wells started the game playing uphill into the wind in a tense, tactical first half. Wimbledon tried to gain territory through kicking, but TW’s defence held firm, with Jarrod winning key penalties and the team forcing knock-ons to keep Wimbledon pinned. Eventually, Wells broke through from a clean lineout, with Isbell powering over for the opening try. The conversion was missed, leaving Wells 5-0 at halftime.

The second half saw Wells turn their dominance into points. Nick Docco scored the second try after making a clever chip kick, which Josh gathered before feeding George, who set up Docco to cross from 15 yards. Jake Rutherford then crossed twice, Brady added the fifth try, and Thresher completed the scoring with a slick wide move. George’s kicking added further pressure, with four conversions successful, taking the final score to 38-0. Momentum built from powerful scrums, clean lineouts, and sharp backs linking play, keeping Wimbledon pinned and unable to respond.

The pack laid the platform all day, dominating scrums and carries, securing every ball, and executing plays with precision. The backs showed sharpness in wide play and support lines and linked particularly well, while George’s kicking kept Wimbledon under constant pressure. Defence remained disciplined throughout, with strong tackling and minimal penalties, shutting down opposition attacks before they could become dangerous.
This was the kind of performance that leaves supporters buzzing. With Big Club Day just around the corner, our 1s, 2s, and 3s are set to light up St Marks on October 4th!
