Community First, Even When the Taps Run Dry

Community First, Even When the Taps Run Dry

Perihan Ibrahim16 Jan - 11:01

Scrums, solidarity, and hopefully running water.

The past few months have been a challenging time for Tunbridge Wells, with repeated water supply issues affecting homes, businesses, and community organisations alike. Tunbridge Wells Rugby Club has not been immune to this and we too found ourselves without water at points. Moments like these remind us what community sport is really about. When Southeast Water needed a central location to help residents get back on track, the club was proud to step up and allow our car park to be used as a temporary water distribution site. Rugby clubs exist for more than just matchdays, and we hope our small contribution has helped support the town through a difficult period.
As a result, we would like to apologise to supporters for the traffic and parking disruption. With our car park currently occupied by Southeast Water, many of you have had to park outside the club and we are very grateful for your patience and understanding. We also want to say a heartfelt sorry to our neighbours for the increased number of cars on surrounding roads. Your tolerance and support does not go unnoticed, and we thank you for bearing with us.

We would also like to thank Mike Martin , MP, for his tireless work throughout this situation, particularly for calling South East Water to account and pressing for proper answers and action on behalf of our community. We are delighted to welcome him as Chairman Mike Rigby’s personal guest at the match this weekend.
Finally, a small note for our friends at Southeast Water. We look forward to welcoming our car park back, ideally in the same condition we lent it to you…..with all the potholes filled in. More importantly, we hope this episode marks the point at which the water issues in Tunbridge Wells are resolved properly and permanently, so our community can move forward with confidence and dry taps become a thing of the past.
