7Wells Crowned Kent Champions in Thrilling U12 Girls Rugby Finals

Yesterday, on a cold and rainy Sunday at Dartford Valley Rugby Club, 7Wells U12 girls etched their names in TWRFC history, emerging as champions in the Kent Cup Finals.

Made up of girls from Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks rugby clubs, 7Wells demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and sheer determination in a fiercely contested top group.

The Cup competition featured Kent’s finest U12 girls teams: Old Gravesendians/Gravesend (OGs), Ashford, and Bromley.

From the first whistle, it was clear this group was going to be a battle of equals. In their opening match, 7Wells drew 2-2 with OGs in a hard-fought encounter, as Ashford and Bromley mirrored the outcome with a 3-3 draw.

7Wells second match saw them face Ashford. 7Wells came back from 2-1 down to level at 2-2 and, despite pressing for a late winner, had to settle for another draw. Elsewhere, Bromley and OGs also finished 2-2, keeping the group wide open heading into the final round. Equal points, equal try difference. One match left to play for all teams.

In their last group match, 7Wells went ahead 1-0 against Bromley in the first half, only to see their opponents equalize early in the second half. News arrived pitch side that, in the other group game, Ashford had edged out OGs 2-1, leaving them top of the group.

But 7Wells were not finished. With the pressure mounting, 7Wells found another gear, storming back with four unanswered tries to secure a stunning 5-1 lead. Bromley managed a late consolation try, but it was too little, too late. Thanks to their relentless defence and spirited attack, 7Wells were crowned champions of Kent—a fitting reward for their determination and perseverance.

The conditions at Dartford Valley were as tough as the competition itself, with biting cold and relentless rain testing all the players. Yet, the resilience and camaraderie on display from the girls in teams across all the competitions—the Bowl, Vase, and Shield—were nothing short of inspirational. Teams from Crimson Beccs, Dartford Valley, Medway, Westcombe Park, Dartfordians, Kent Barbarians, and Bass played with immense heart. Congratulations to all the girls and their coaches who made their clubs proud. Kent has a very strong future in girls rugby.

Special thanks go to Kent U12 Girls Rugby lead, Eiryls Withers, for organising such a well-run tournament and to Dartford Valley for hosting.

For 7Wells, it was a memorable day.
